Pangy Day and an Afternoon Hike

Saturday, April 26, 2008, 07:02 PM PST [General]

Pangy Day was Friday the 25th of April.  I did my part with getting the May Pole to the green, putting up the banner and bring supplies (stuff from our closet and sandbags from the trunk of my car Mighty Mouse).  Lunch was good (veggie hamburger!) on the green and we were passing out daisies.  There was live music at lunch and then at 1ish we did the May Pole weave.  I finally got to weave it!!!!  The weather was awesome too!  Sunny, not to hot with nice cool breezes!!  I was really happy it was outside this year instead of inside like last rainy Pangy Day.  We did a rain ritual on Thursday night where I called the elements and Spirit.  I lit the Spirit candle in a blue vase and slowly poured water into the vase representing the rain for the bowl and spirit to hold for during the festitvities.  There was more symbolism in it but I wont ramble on about that.  I have my complaints, but I wont express them here, that would just be wasteing energy.  After the main pole was woven, we gathered the ribbons and I finished the weaving.  Then the spiral dance started and I picked up the drum and started a beat with the music.  I felt the dance needed real drumming and I felt that was my duty.  So I sat on the sandbags under the May Pole with the drum in the lap beating out the rhythm.  The leader of the sprial dance Ellen Kennedy is a professional Sacred Circle dance leader and she saluted in the center of the pole, that was cool!  After the spiral dances I helped organize local icecream dispersment (ie. I made two lines for icecream and told what types there were).  Then I went home because I didn't feel the spirit of the event anymore (only really felt it while dancing/drumming).  I changed and a second before the phone rang I "knew" they were going to ask for my car to take the sandbags back to the gym.  Sure enough, so I drove them around and went back to my room to eat dinner with my roommate who missed the whole thing due to being in classes/meetings.  We went to the end of the Chorale performance in the chapel and went back to our apartment to watch movies.  I wore my homemade white skirt, a blue croptop, the adhesive jeweled tattoo on my belly button, my pentagram and unicorn earrings.

Today, this afternoon I met with a friend and her housemate to go on a hike in our local 7 sister hills.  That was a blast!  We went to the top of Norwatick peak and then took a path down to Amherst/Akins farm.  We hiked for about 3.5 hours.  I was introduced to winterberries or winter mint berries and that was cool!  I never been able to hike and eat berries before!  They taste like wintermint and are little red berries.  You can make tea with the leaves.  We then chewed on black birch twigs which have a minty taste too.  I met two trees (a white beech, and a pine) that were amazing!  I even hugged the white beech and it was the perfect width.  The pine was massive!  It was soo big and had many thick branches tall up in the canopy.  There was also a cute little brook that bubbled so nicely.  I found a white rock in the stream and took it home.

Now I am getting ready for Senior Ball, didn't get any studying in, and my good friend isn't coming.  Poop.  That's all I have to say.  I am wearing my homemade green dress with a drape and my roommate and I will have fun!

out of body in my mind

Tuesday, April 22, 2008, 08:38 PM PST [General]

happy earth day!  we have a newish pair of ducks on our lakes!  It's the common merganser duck.  Here is an example: Common Merganser

Also the turtles, frogs/tadpoles, fish and more birds have awoken/arrived these past few weeks!  I love watching the turtles and fish in the lake, but make me miss my Rum.  The trees are abloom and the flowers are starting the bloom as well!  Spring has finally settled in at MHC.

I talked with my mum today for an hour which was nice and grounding.  I went to see a bird photographer's slide show this evening which was really nice too.  Yesterday my friend Anita and I went shopping for shirts, essentials, and a new horseback riding helmet.  We had a blast trying on cloths at the OCD salvation army thrift store which was color coded!  She found this fabulous wedding dress that looked like it was pioneer/80's dress with silk and lace and giant poofy sleeves!  I thought it was a great replica of that period of clothing let alone the craftmanship was superb.  It was a dress I could see in a museum of period clothing.  I also found a new riding helmet for cheap and it is exactly what I wanted (black, small Troxel Spirit with GPS II retention system to adjust to fit my head with ponytails, braids you name it!)!!!!!  I felt so proud finding such a deal!

MHC's annual (second year) Pangy Day is happening on Friday.  The Pagan/Wiccan Collective supplies the May Pole and spiral dances and I can't wait!  I still have to get sandbags to support the pole, and am stressing about other things that are out of my control (I am trying to stop fretting and let it go).  Then on Saturday night I have the Senior Ball and I get to wear my green dress I sewed 2 years ago for the first time!!!  Another thing I am really excited about!!  This weekend is going to be buzy but full of fun stuff!  Then all I have left practically are finals and graduation!

My head is in the clouds!

    the calm before the storm

Saturday, April 12, 2008, 09:14 AM PST [General]

I feel like I need to write something because I haven't in a while.

The calm before the storm is the cliche for my life at the moment.  All I do these days is: homework (which I don't have very much, espcially for a senior...very strange, don't know what to do with myself), work at the stables, eat (oh the joys of food), exercise (I think I can, I think I can said the train), sleep (or at least stay in bed where it is warm and comfy), and go to class (the majority of my time).  That's the calm.

The storm will be here in about a month.  Finals when all my experiments, essays and tests are due, graduation preparation (farewell to underclassmen, meeting alumnae for reunion which takes place during graduation, packing (scary), making sure paperwork is all down (getting transcript to my graduate school, making sure all financial stuff is taken care of, and anything else I presently don't know about)), graduation (WHAT!), driving back to California (can't wait!), and once home getting a job etc.

But I can only do so much to prepare for the storm, so I guess I will just live today and enjoy having very little to do.  I can watch the turtles and birds on the lake what fun!
